I still have huge pieces of the flagstone. I love them, they do have so many colors! When I started breaking the cement I realized they were there and luckily most of the cement was in bad shape so I was able to dig most of them out in pretty big pieces- One I got out whole and it is about the size of a small picnic table top! Again, I wish you the best with your new adventures. Maybe as my yard gets a makeover so will yours!! Take care and Happy HolidaysAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4350172062816359483.post-11911208681525097442011-12-13T11:36:51.997-06:002011-12-13T11:36:51.997-06:00Hey there, Leslie,

I never got to that point -- spent so much time clearing debris and relaying the flagstone that summer, and then we moved in the spring.

It's a shame about the cement. The flagstone was very, very rich -- and some of the pieces huge!

That was the kind of home that, had I had the money (journalists seldom do), I'd loved to have renovated.

Thanks, also, Leslie, for supplying the word cabana -- I could not for the life of me figure out why gazebo was not an exact fit while I was writing.Ted Schnellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06338975463102889798noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4350172062816359483.post-26378818432662152912011-12-13T09:34:27.753-06:002011-12-13T09:34:27.753-06:00Very interesting! We bought it back in 2003 from Joe Holden, who must have been Dick's son, and have been working on it since. We have converted it back into a house it has been alot of work but very rewarding. I have often wondered about this place and I too can see its charm and history and hope to bring it back to its glory days! While the inside of the house is almost complete the back yard is still in dispare, which I hope to tackle this summer. It was so exciting to run across this article and hear about the back yard. I have piles of petrified wood and huge pieces of the flagstone that I hope to repair the yard with. The Cabana at the back and petrified wood fireplace are still standing and will get a make over this summer. The flagstone walkway you had laid was covered with cement at sometime and I spent last summer breaking that up in hopes of laying a flagstone walkway. I did not know the flagstone was under the cement until I started breaking it up thinking why would anyone ever cover this up. I plan to put raised sq ft garden beds down the walkway and bring in some sod to get rid of all the dirt! One question for you- we unburied an old pond on the lower level by the cabana that is too broken up to fix but I wonder if it was working when you lived here? I wish you the best with your current adventure and wanted to thank you for a piece of information about this place. We love it!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4350172062816359483.post-77081983245060008992011-12-11T13:12:29.249-06:002011-12-11T13:12:29.249-06:00I hope and pray so too, brother!I hope and pray so too, brother!Erichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00903413906920510406noreply@blogger.com
